Dental Implants

Why choose dental implants?

Having missing teeth can have a negative effect on your self-esteem, as it impacts your ability to eat, smile and speak as you used to. Tooth loss can be due to any number of factors such as extraction, decay or accident. Whatever the cause, dental implants from Leverstock Green Dental Practice can restore proper chewing and speaking function and give you the confidence to smile again.

Dental implants are a permanent replacement for missing teeth, either as a single implant for just one tooth, or as a set to anchor a bridge or even dentures. Unlike dentures, implants are permanently fixed in the mouth and cannot be removed, making them much more stable.

What is a dental implant?

The implant itself is a small, titanium, screw-like post, fixed into the jawbone to replace the root of the missing tooth. Following a process of osseointegration, where the surrounding bone bonds with the implant, a replacement tooth is attached onto the post. This can be a crown, for a single tooth, or a bridge or dentures for several teeth. It is even possible to replace all of your teeth with implants – a procedure during which several implants are placed to support a complete set of false teeth.

Dr Shekha Bhuva is highly-qualified at placing implants and has a great deal of experience with cases of varying complexity. You can rest assured that we will give you not only first-rate dental implant care, but excellent follow-up maintenance as well. This is critical to avoid complications such as peri-implantitis.

Are dental implants the best solution to replace my missing teeth?

Implants today are widely seen as the best solution for missing teeth, but your suitability depends on the quality and quantity of bone in your jaw. The best way to find out if you’re a suitable candidate is to come in for a consultation where we can discuss your requirements and assess how well implants will work for you

Dental Implants FAQs

This depends on the condition and quantity of the bone in your jaw. If, following our assessment, we find the bone is unsuitable, it may be possible to graft bone into the area to enable treatment.

Are implants safe?

Supported by over 30 years of clinical evidence, dental implants today are a safe, well-established treatment with a 95% success rate.

We use a local anaesthetic to numb the area, so you should not feel any pain. For nervous patients, or in very complex cases, we may recommend conscious sedation. After the surgery you may experience some pain and swelling, but this can be treated at home with over the counter painkillers such as paracetamol.

Once the implant has integrated with the bone and surrounding soft tissue, its life will be determined by the quality of at-home care and attendance at regular clinical follow-ups. Plaque can accumulate, just as with natural teeth, and this can lead to gum infection, bleeding and general discomfort. However, well-maintained implants can be expected to last many years and often a whole lifetime.

Testimonials

Shekha, I am so thankful to you for my new smile I just can't believe how much I 've missed eating properly. I could hug you, and under normal circumstances would have on Thursday
